For Parents Who Want To Know How To Save On Baby Clothing

By Suzi Sinclair

When a new baby comes into your lives, your heart often feels rich with love... But your wallet may feel a bit light from all the costs. You'll be busy buying a place for the baby to sleep, a stroller to push them around in, and special food and drink to sustain the little one. But above all, you'll be spending lots of money on all the baby clothes. With these tips, you'll know how to save on baby clothing, keeping this expense to the minimum.

Unlike many adults, who may wear one or two outfits each day, babies often go through many changes. Whether it's from a leaky diaper, a post-feeding burp, or just the dust from crawling on the floor, babies go through lots of clothes during a day. And since new parents are busy adjusting to, playing with, and enjoying their new baby, there isn't always time to do laundry. As such, having lots of extra baby outfits is very important.

The costs from all the clothes can add up, but we've got some tips to save you some money. By calling on friends and family, shopping at charity shops, and getting your creative juices pumping, you can have a sharply-dressed toddler without the high costs.

Probably the best option to save on clothes is to connect up with other moms and dads in your family, friends, or community. Those people who already have a toddler will likely have piles of clothes they're happy to part with. Because new babies grow-up so fast, their clothes don't get worn-out. When their baby's clothes don't fit anymore, they might be willing to share them with your little one. An added bonus for them is that they're able to make room for all the new clothes their little one is collecting.

Another great way to track down some gently used baby clothes is through charity thrift shops. These great little stores often have loads of outfits for infants and toddlers, and sell them at greatly reduced prices from retail. After you've gotten a great deal, don't forget to run these new-to-you clothes through your washing machine to make sure that they're clean for your baby. And by shopping at a charity shop, you're making a donation to an important community service organization, all while making sure your little one is well dressed.

Anytime you get clothes second-hand - from a thrift store, or from friends or family - don't forget to do your part to continue to chain. When your child has grown out of the clothes, give them to a friend or family member who is expecting, or donate them to another charity thrift shop. By doing so, you're getting more use out of the clothes, cutting down on waste, and saving money.

Another great option for creative parents is to turn-on your sewing machine to make your own baby clothes. Sewing takes some practice, but also provides a way to decompress from all the anxiety and energy that goes along with a pregnancy. By spending a couple hours at the end of the day in a sewing room, you can calm your mind to promote your overall well-being. By stitching together a baby top or some bottoms, you can get creative, de-stress, and save some money.

When you're expecting, it's easy to get overwhelmed with all of the changes coming for your family. Now that you know how to save on baby clothing, you have one less thing to worry about. Second-hand and homemade clothing are great options, and allow you to focus on what's important - spending time with your little one. Congratulations on a well-dressed baby!
