Children's Slippers | Kids Slippers Safety Features That All Parents Should Be Aware Of

By Teresa Formers

Kid slippers can be a challenge for parents to pick the perfect pair of children's footwear. There are so many different colors, styles, and brands to choose from that we often forget that the primary concern should always be child safety. We need to remember, when shopping for child's slippers, to find ones that won't cause them to slip and fall.

Children run around, skipping and jumping and simply being children. Because of this their footwear needs to be able to keep up with them. Pay attention the soles of kid's slippers and look for those with non-skid soles to help prevent falls, and avoid children's footwear with laces that may come untied and trip your child. When buying children's slippers we need to be aware of all the little details for the safety of our children.

The next thing that you should consider when choosing kid's slippers are the pieces that are on the shoes - especially if you are purchasing for a young child. It is not at all uncommon to see small pieces such as those little eyes that wiggle, sequins, small buttons, and other decorative pieces on slippers designed for kids.

Children's slippers for very young children should not have small pieces. Look instead for simple, colorful slippers.

Even when buying kid's footwear for older children you should keep in mind that they might have younger siblings in the house.

Don't forget to look for kid's slippers that have a durable, machine washable fabric. House shoes will get dirty and need to be washed again and again, which is easier to do when they can simply be put in the washing machine.

There are so many different styles of kids footwear to choose from that it can be hard for an adult to pick the right pair. Does your child want animal slippers, or footwear with a cartoon character? Do they want ones with fancy decorations, special colors or patterns? Today's manufacturers are well aware of what children want and what adults need and almost all of these children's slippers can be washed over and over again.

When you choose kid's slippers you have to be careful about sizing. As with all shoes, different brands may fit your child differently. Kids footwear that is too small will pinch your child's foot, but slippers that are too big may cause your child to slip and fall!

When sizing a shoe, put them on your child's feet and have them stand up. Press gently on the toe area and if there is more than a finger's width of space between the tip of the slipper and your child's toe, then the shoe is too big. With these tips, and a little common sense, you should be able to find the perfect children's slipper for your child.
